Another vehicle, a two-door Infiniti, driven by an unnamed driver, was going east on the same roadway. Suddenly, for reasons that remain unknown, the Infiniti drove into the westbound lane, striking the Ford in the process.
Korzilius’ vehicle vaulted over a guardrail and crashed down an embankment. He was dead before the medics arrived at the scene, and the other driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries, which was treated at the hospital.
The TCSO has not stated if they plan to cite the driver of the Infiniti, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. The Texas Department of Public Safety is taking point, with the assistance of the TCSO Highway Enforcement and Accident Team unit.
Korzilius is one out of eight deputies with the TCSO to die in the line of duty. He joined the department in 2016, was promoted to a senior deputy within two years, and has several awards and commendations.
The deceased was an exemplary officer whom the TCSO said will be missed. The arrangement for the funeral is underway and will be communicated by the sheriff’s office at a later date.
