Susman was wearing a helmet but he reportedly hit his head extremely hard.
Managing partner of Susman Godfrey, Neal Manne, said the trial lawyer was in an unconscious state at the Texas Medical Center’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
His wife and children are not allowed to see him because of COVID-19 visitation restrictions.
Susman works at the law firm’s Houston and New York offices.
Manne said Susman took part in the MS 150 bike ride fundraiser seven times and he was the top fundraiser on several occasions. This gave him the privilege of wearing the No. 1 jersey on those occasions.
Susman rode last year and he had planned to do it again this year. However, the May event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Manne pointed out that Susman remained active until the accident.
While Manne described the crash as a freak accident, road users who suffer injuries because of road conditions can sometimes get compensation.
Texas accident reports often focus on the role of drivers in crashes. However, thousands of people are injured or killed each year because of dangerous road conditions.
A top accident lawyer may be able to hold a government entity responsible.
