The initial collision happened when a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado struck a 2001 Chrysler 300 from behind. 16-year-old Giselle Carrier was the backseat passenger in that initial collision.

The Chrysler was then pushed into the rear of a 2005 Acura TSX that then pushed into the rear of a 2017 Lexus NX.

The driver of the Chrysler was identified as a 40-year-old New Bedford woman, she suffered serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Carrier was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained.

There was also a 14-year-old boy in the vehicle that was taken to Hasbro for minor injuries sustained in the car accident.

There were four occupants in the Acura. A 24-year-old New Bedford man, a 27-year-old male, a 22-year-old female, and a 24-year-old woman were all taken to Rhode Island Hospital. They were described as having minor injuries from the collision.

The driver of the Silverado, which started the chain reaction, was a 43-year-old Johnston man who had a 17-year-old passenger. They were both taken to the hospital with injuries considered to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the Lexus, a 34-year-old Providence man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. It was not clear if he had sustained an injury in the collision or not.

The exact cause of the accident remains unclear at this time. The Massachusetts State Police are currently investigating the accident.
