The California Highway Patrol responded to an accident on March 21, at 4:40 p.m. when a motorcycle ran off the road and down an embankment. The accident occurred at the intersection of Snell Valley Road and Butts Canyon Road.

Based on the preliminary accident report, 57-year-old John Wayne Bauer Jr. was riding his 2004 Harley Davidson Motorcycle when he ran off the roadway and into an embankment. He was the only one involved in the accident.

There was no indication in the report if Bauer was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Paramedics were called to the scene by the California Highway Patrol and performed CPR on the man. Unfortunately, they were not able to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The state of California requires, by law, that all persons who are on a motorcycle must wear a helmet. They have gone one step further with this law as well. It is also illegal for a passenger to wear a helmet if the driver of the motorcycle is not.

Police did not confirm if an autopsy was going to be done on Bauer to determine the cause of death. At this time, the investigation is currently ongoing. The hope is for the investigation to determine the exact reasoning that Bauer went off of the roadway and down the embankment, to begin with. Updates pending publication.
