A few hours after being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Baring Boulevard and Goldy Way, 79-year-old Roy Degiovanni of Sparks was transported to Renown, where he died. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, the cause of death was injury.

Initially, it was reported that Roy had been critically injured following the accident, which occurred early Sunday, February 16. Sparks Police Department said a black Toyota hit a pedestrian crossing Goldy Way when it was going north on that route. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene. Police said the vehicle should be missing part of the parking lamp and a piece of the driver’s side bumper.
Before passing away, the victim was in critical condition at a hospital. Anyone with information is asked to call Secret Witness or the police at 775-353-2231.
Police spokesman Andrew Bennett says that’s a total of 494 fatal crashes over three years involving an impaired substance accounting for 540 deaths. Impairment of the driver is considered a possible cause at this time. Stay tuned for updates.
This was not the only incident of its kind in Nevada on February 16. An elderly man died after a car rolled onto him in Reno near the intersection of Kietzke Lane and Galletti Way. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
