The latter is less than five miles from the Lake Michigan shoreline. The information gathered by the police placed Gilliland on the lane heading south on M-140. They noted that the deceased moved across the centerline, went through the road heading south, and ended up striking a tree.
Those who witnessed the accident said that they heard a loud sound and rushed to the scene. The witnesses found Gilliland in his 2005 Chrysler Town and Country unresponsive and tried to resuscitate him. The man failed to recover consciousness, and the authorities declared him dead.
The CTPD added that they have not determined if intoxicating substances contributed to the fatal accident. The investigators ordered a toxicology exam to help them determine the presence or absence of intoxicants and will release an update once they have it. The crash remains under investigation.
Several reports of car accidents show that single-vehicle crashes often end fatally. To reduce the death rate, drivers must obey traffic rules and regulations, and cultivate road safety habits.
