On Wednesday, July 29th, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office released details of the arrest of Rodney DeLawrence Brown, 23, after he tried to flee the scene of a car crash in American Canyon, California. Officials said that the man physically resisted the officers who wanted to take him into custody.
The events leading to the arrest began with the suspect crashing his car into a wall at 8:21 p.m. on Silver Oak Trail and Toscana Drive on Tuesday, July 28th. NCSO Spokesperson Henry Wofford said that Brown disobeyed an officer’s order to stand next to the patrol car after the occurrence, and ran down the road.

The male officer then followed the man with his patrol car, and another officer joined to assist him in apprehending the suspect. The lawmen caught up with the Brown, handcuffed him, and tried to place him in the back of the police vehicle.
While doing the latter, the man, whose last known address listed him as a resident of American Canyon, shifted his body, locked his legs and spat on one of the officers. Wofford said that two more officers arrived at the scene, and helped put the suspect into a leg-wrap restraint.
Afterward, they took Brown to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for observation. The officers then booked him into the Napa County Jail on a felony allegation of resisting police. He is also facing misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license, and a suspected probation violation, and would need a top accident lawyer’s service.
