Based on the investigation, around 4:12 p.m. Montiel-Ortiz was driving his 1996 Chevrolet Blazer north on the highway. When he approached the off-ramp near Stead Boulevard his vehicle ended up off the road.
When he realized what had happened, he tried to correct the mistake. Montiel-Ortiz ended up overturning the vehicle. It has not been determined how many times the vehicle flipped before coming to rest on its top.
The police have not released if they believe the driver was under the influence when the accident occurred. It is not apparent if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Rollover crashes can cause a lot of damage to a body. Even if he was wearing a seat belt it is possible that his body underwent a lot of impact due to the accident.
Neck and spinal injuries are common among rollover crashes. The victim gets whipped around in the rolling motion and it can cause fractures and breaks to the delicate bone structure.
Internal injuries are also frequently mentioned in cases where a rollover accident occurred.
The severity of Montiel-Ortiz’s injuries was not released in the press release from the Nevada Highway Patrol. What we do know is that Montiel-Ortiz was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
He was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.
