While driving, the Ford left the roadway to the north, with Fischer trying to re-enter the road. However, he lost control of the truck, with the vehicle spinning before crossing the highway and striking an embankment. After hitting the barrier, the Ford Ranger overturned before finally coming to a rest.
Apart from Fischer, an unidentified 40-year-old man of Perkins, Illinois, was also in the Ford Ranger. The man suffered critical wounds and died. Police await the notification of his next of kin before they go on to reveal his identity.
Authorities said that Fischer displayed signs that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. They arrested him before taking him to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for treatment of the wounds he suffered.
Authorities closed the road to traffic after the crash. The closure was necessary to enable them to clean the wreckage of the accident. The road was reopened soon after, with the closure having minimal impact on traffic.
The crash remains under investigation, with no other information available at this time. Following the incident and his subsequent arrest, the suspect may also need a drunk driving attorney to help with the case.
