The Nissan was traveling northbound on the South Lake Shore Drive when it ran into the accident in the 5700 block. The driver of the SUV appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a roadside tree.
The sheer impact of the collision caused significant damage to the vehicle. Rebecca Bordenaro sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the paramedics and first responders had arrived on the scene of the crash, she was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital.
According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Bordenaro couldn’t recover from her injuries and died at the hospital. Autopsy results showed that her death was caused by the injuries she had sustained in the crash. The medical examiner’s office ruled her death accidental.
It isn’t clear whether the driver of the Nissan also sustained any injuries in the incident. Subsequent accident reports may also show whether the driver was held liable for the fatal crash.
