The press release by the sheriff’s office revealed that investigators found out that the teenager and a 32-year-old female passenger drove from Cashmere up Nahahum Canyon Road, before starting down Canyon Road.
Dodge and the woman were 7.3 miles from Highway 97A when the vehicle at low speed went off the road and rolled until it rested on its roof. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the driver unresponsive and pronounced her dead.
The police did not release any information on the passenger. The accident remains under investigation, and the public will receive updates once there’s more information.
Car crashes are not uncommon among young drivers between the ages of 16 and 19. The Center for Disease Control notes that most teenagers in the United States die from motor vehicle accidents that are avoidable.
As seen in accident reports, the factors that cause teenage crashes range from the inexperience of the drivers to negligent and distracted driving. Others are over speeding, impaired driving, driving with adolescent passengers, and lack of seatbelt use.
