LOS ANGELES, CA – A brief police pursuit in Boyle Heights led to a fiery crash that critically injured two motorists on Sunday morning, reports NBC Los Angeles.
Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section said the chase began when a vehicle narrowly avoided striking a patrol vehicle near the intersection of Seventh Street and Marietta Street.

The fleeing vehicle, a gold 2000 Toyota Solara, evaded police for about 30 seconds before colliding with another vehicle on the 800 block of Spence Street. The Solara rolled over in the crash and caught fire.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, emergency crews responded to the scene at 8:54 a.m.
Lopez said firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before officers and firefighters rescued the driver and an unconscious passenger from the Toyota.
Margaret Stewart with LAFD stated that the two motorists suffered critical injuries and were transported by medics to a nearby hospital.
Two occupants in the other vehicle were left in pain but did not require hospitalization. No further details on their injuries were shared.
