The incident happened at 600 S. Rancho Drive near Alta Drive. The police said that a Ford Expedition pulling a trailer ran the woman over and dragged her without stopping. Medics rushed her to University Medical Center, where medical personnel found that the victim suffered a pelvic fracture and kidney laceration.
Caiazza remained in the hospital receiving treatment until her death. The driver of the Ford, Joe Jimenez, 44, fled the scene, and the police launched a search for him. On Thursday, August 6th, officers arrested the man after a witness identified him as the driver involved in the collision.
The police believe that the victim was the friend of a man who sold the Ford to the suspect. On the day of the accident, the woman accompanied the car owner to recover Jimenez’s outstanding payment. The accident report stated that the motorist pushed Caiazza from the driver’s door and then drove over her.
The LVMPD charged the suspect with the open murder of an older person using a deadly weapon. They remanded him at the Clark County Detention Center without bail, and he is due in court on Thursday, August 20th.
