Pacific Palisades resident, Jill Young, has been identified as the passenger killed in a plane crash in the Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim’s identity on Tuesday, September 22nd.
The coroner said that the pilot of the aircraft, 62-year-old Jim De Varennes of Pacific Palisades, also died from the crash. The accident report of Friday, September 11th, disclosed that the plane went down west of the Van Nuys Airport.

The Los Angeles Police said that the single-engine Navion B plane had just taken off from the airport en route to Santa Ynez Airport in Santa Barbara County when it crashed in the 6900-block of North Hayvenhurst Avenue. It occurred around 3:04 p.m.
The aircraft caught fire, killing Young and Varennes. Witnesses told the investigators that the plane made a steep climb before stopping and nose-diving to the ground. Firefighters with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and helped put out the flames.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board also responded. The agencies are handling the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. There is no additional information.
