Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Robert Grmusha said the crash was caused by a Nissan Altima that sped through a red light at a high speed.
The Altima was traveling eastbound on Allesandro and struck a westbound Toyota Corolla that was trying to turn left to southbound Perris at the intersection.
The impact forced the Altima to roll over into the eastbound lanes and the Corolla to spin out.
The driver of the Altima was declared deceased at the scene.
A passenger in the Altima and the driver of the Corolla were rushed to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Grmusha said they are expected to recover.
Authorities closed the intersection to clear the crash and begin an investigation.
