At about 3 a.m., a 2017 GMC Sierra truck driven by a man identified as a 56-year-old Cobb County resident rear-ended the Kia. The Marietta Police Spokesman, Officer Chuck McPhilamy, said the impact of the collision caused the truck to leave the road.
Soon afterward, another vehicle, a 2020 Mazda CX-5 driven by a 29-year-old man from Rome, struck Somarriba’s car, making it the second hit. The man sustained life-threatening injuries but lived. The paramedics took him to the hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time.
The driver of the GMC and the two people in the Mazda did not sustain injuries. McPhilamy said that they cooperated with the authorities and were released afterward. The police have not discovered what Somarriba’a car was doing in the middle of the interstate.
