Local law enforcement officials are currently continuing their investigation into this incident, but here’s what we know:
At approximately 6:10 AM local time this morning (Tuesday, 2/4/20), first responders and emergency personnel responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle collision on Custer Road north of Sugar Grove Road in Mason County’s Sherman Township.
The preliminary investigation points to the fact that an SUV going south on Custer Road rear-ended a farm manure-spreading vehicle. The manure spreader was also traveling southbound on Custer Road, and was partially on the shoulder, as it was traveling at a slower speed than normal traffic. After the initial collision, the SUV spun across and into the northbound lane of Custer Road, and was promptly hit by the two pickup trucks traveling in the northbound lane.
All three victims, the deceased and the other two drivers, were taken by LIFE EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
Mr. Harland’s southbound vehicle hit the rear of the manure spreader, also southbound on Custer Road, which was being driven by James Shea, 47-years-old, of Custer MI.
Harland, Paggeot, and Sobaski all received non-life-threatening injuries at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
The tragic incident remains under investigation by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and local police are currently working on notifying family members of the incident.
Awaiting an official investigation, the loved ones of the victims could be entitled to a wrongful death or personal injury claim. Family members of injury or wrongful death victims might pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a horrible or tragic incident such as this terrible accident.
