At roughly 3:00 am on Monday morning, February 3rd, a man in Phoenix was struck and killed by a car while he was attempting to run across Interstate 17. The accident took place near 16th St.
When state troopers arrived at the scene, they tried to resuscitate the man. However, these attempts failed. The impact from the car accident had created too much damage to the man’s body to be resuscitated.

However, the unidentified man was still brought to Maricopa County Hospital. He was officially pronounced dead at the hospital by doctors.
The driver of the vehicle that killed the man was fully cooperative with police. He informed the police that the man simply ran right in front of his car on the highway and there was not enough time to prevent hitting him.
Following the accident the highway was closed for roughly an hour so investigators could scan the scene. The road reopened at about 4:30 am.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged with any crimes at this time and has not been arrested. It appears as though the cause of the accident was purely the man’s decision to run into highway traffic.
It is unclear whether the man was on drugs or alcohol when he made this fatal decision. It is also unclear whether or not the man intentionally wanted to cause harm to himself or end his own life.
The driver of the car sustained no serious injuries.
