The two were trying to cross U.S. Highway 67 around noon when the accident occurred.
They were flown to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital by helicopter.
However, Texas Department of Public Services information officer Ricky Hunter said Vara was declared dead at 1:21 p.m.
Ray’s ex-sister-in-law Rebecca Vara said Ray received a severe injury to her left arm as well as internal injuries. She said she had at least two surgeries and was reportedly on a ventilator.
DPS revealed that the two women were struck by a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 40-year-old Alison Leigh Baker of Walnut Springs. The driver did not suffer any injuries and Hunter said no charges had been filed as yet.
Regardless of whether there are ever any criminal proceedings, the families of the victims can reach out to a car accident attorney for advice about their legal options. They may be eligible for compensation.
Vara and Ray were reportedly heading back to the Glen Rose Inn & Suites after going to the Valero Pronto Market.
Vara was not married and had no children. She is survived by her mother, father, sister, and two brothers.
