Officer S. Salama of the California Highway Patrol said in a press release that the male driver of the tow truck was unable to stop in time after encountering a traffic jam ahead of him. The man rear-ended a 2018 Toyota Corolla driven by a 29-year-old La Puente woman.
The truck went on to rear-end a 2018 Nissan Murano with Milliner as a passenger in the rear car seat. The car was in the number 4 lane, and the collision sent it into the center divider wall. The boy passed away from the injuries sustained.
The driver of the vehicle and three other occupants sustained moderate to significant injuries. Salama added that a Dodge Ram truck with two occupants collided into the right front of the Nissan. The 2018 Corolla rear-ended a 2019 Kia Niro driven by a man from Culver City, and the car struck the back of a 2008 Honda Odyssey.
The CHP officer said that a 2006 Honda CRV, a 2000 Toyota Corolla, and a 2018 Lexus IS200T were also involved in the collision. The accident report showed that some occupants of the vehicles had injuries, but survived; others went unscathed, and Milliner was the only fatal casualty.
