Turner, who was a sound engineer, was killed and seven people were injured on September 18, 2019 when a tour bus plunged off a cliff near Shandon, California.
The suit alleges negligent and defective design of the bus, wrongful death, and negligent hiring.
Both Josh Turner’s management company, Modern Management, and the operator of the tour bus, All Access Coach Leasing, have been named in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit argues that the two companies should have been aware the bus was dangerous and defective, partly because it had no seatbelts.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for funeral expenses, lost wages and other costs.
The case is scheduled to be heard in September.
On the night of the crash, Turner performed in Paso Robles. The accident occurred after the show as the bus traveled on Highway 46.
According to accident reports from the California Highway Patrol, the bus was going at around 50 to 60 miles per hour when for some reason, it drove off the roadway.
The vehicle traveled along a dirt shoulder and then went through a barbed-wire fence and thick foliage for about 200 yards. It then went off a cliff, striking the bottom of a dry riverbed.
Two passengers, including David Turner, were ejected.
Josh and his band were on a different bus.
