The man fled the scene, leaving the woman on the roadway. The investigators said that despite first responders’ efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene. They will release her identity after notifying the next-of-kin.
The crash led to the roadway’s closure for over five hours while the police concluded their preliminary investigation and cleared the scene. The SPPD said that Lynch has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for a drug test.
They booked the suspect into the Contra Costa County Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run and felony probation violation. The police said that the investigating detectives have not ruled out impairment by drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.
