According to the California Highway Patrol, an Infiniti sedan headed southbound on Poplar, approaching the intersection with Orange. At the same time, a Chevy Impala traveled westbound on Orange at top speed.
The Impala, driven by Guiterrez, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and collided with Carranza’s Infiniti, with Arreola as his passenger. Another passenger in the car suffered significant injuries and received treatment at Kern Medical.
A passenger in the Impala also suffered injuries and received treatment at the same hospital. The investigation into the occurrence is ongoing.
Speed is one of the leading causes of collisions in California. The state’s Basic Speed Law provides that drivers must not travel faster than is safe for current road conditions, considering the number and speed of other vehicles on the road.
Drivers should also consider whether the road surface is smooth, rough, graveled, wet, dry, wide, or narrow. Weather conditions, bicycle, and pedestrian lanes should also get considered.
