Shaka Smart, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, confirmed on Thursday, February 13, that they may need to revert to an all-hands-on-deck approach for the rest of the season. Smart has confirmed that star forward Jericho Sims may be out for the rest of the season due to a back injury.
The severity of the injury has not been confirmed by Smart or the medical personnel in charge of the Longhorns’ player’s care. They are still assessing the total injury, but Smart did confirm that Sims is feeling a lot of pain and discomfort due to the injury.

Sims is not the first player for the Longhorns who will be out for injury. Guard Jase Febres is currently out with a knee injury and forward Kai Jones with an ankle injury.
Because of Sims injury, more pressure is going to be on Royce Hamm to deliver during upcoming games.
Sims’ injury has come at an inopportune time for the Longhorns, as they are vying for a spot in the prestigious Big 12 tournament that is slated for next month. The reality of that happening is slim given Sims inconsistency on the floor with his injury.
It hasn’t been released when the actual injury to Sims’ back occurred, but he has spent months trying to work through the pain for the benefit of the team. Recently, his stats have gone down because of the increased amount of pain and discomfort it has brought. Smart calls Sims a “warrior” for fighting through the injury for as long as he has. Smart hopes that the medical staff will not put him out for the rest of the season, h
