The Clark County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the fatality of a single-vehicle accident that occurred on April 28 in southwest Las Vegas. The 83-year-old victim’s name, Herschel Williams, was publicly released on May 1. The Coroner did not say if the delay was for next of kin notification or other reasons.
According to preliminary reports about the accident, Williams was driving southbound on Dean Martin Drive near the intersection for West Wigwam Avenue. His 2015 Mercedes Benz then crossed the median at approximately 4:40 p.m., for unknown reasons, and into oncoming traffic. Police noted that the vehicle hit a light pole and overturned.

Williams was found to have been ejected from the vehicle at the scene of the accident. It was not noted if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Coroner ruled the death accidental, but the cause was related to multiple blunt force trauma sustained during the crash.
Williams was taken from the scene of the accident to receive treatment at University Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Although there is no confirmation, Lt. Jeff Stuart believes that the cause of the accident may have been linked to a medical incident suffered by Williams shortly before the car left the road.
It is not clear if any information has been found to confirm that Williams was the victim of a medical episode. There were no other vehicles or victims involved in the accident. Williams is the 33rd traffic fatality that Las Vegas Metro Police has had to investigate this year.
