Auto-pedestrian collisions are one of the most common accidents on California roadways, and they claim lives daily. The Cal-Office of Traffic Safety sees it as a problem going from bad to worse, and the agency believes that drivers and pedestrians play a role in the occurrence.
OTS admonishes the two sides of the divide to promote safe road habits for their safety and other road users. Drivers achieve this by driving within the speed limit, yielding to pedestrians, and looking carefully before going through intersections.
On their part, pedestrians must use the designated crosswalks and avoid dangerous behaviors like jaywalking. Wear bright colors, avoid texting on the road, and look left-right-left before crossing.
