The crash happened shortly after he left the Texas Freedom Rally in Austin at which he was a speaker.
West suffered multiple bone fractures, a concussion, and several lacerations.
However, he was said to be in stable condition on Sunday morning.
His team kept well-wishers updated on his progress via his verified Facebook page.
West, a current candidate for chair of the Republican Party of Texas, was reportedly cut off by a motorist as he rode. This caused a collision between him and another motorcyclist.
He was transported by helicopter to Baylor Scott & White Health in Waco.
The other motorcyclist’s identity was not revealed and their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
It is not known whether the driver whose actions allegedly caused the crash will be cited for an infraction or charged with a crime.
There is also no word as yet on whether the injured motorcyclists will take legal action against the person. These details may be released in subsequent accident reports.
West is expected to resume his regular activities as soon as he receives medical clearance to do so.
The retired US Army lieutenant colonel was elected to Congress in 2010 and he served one term before losing his seat.
