Before the police arrived, Ross, Scott, and Williams fled the scene and an officer spotted them heading towards El Dorado Hills on Highway 50. The women reportedly traveled at speeds over 120 miles per hour during the chase that covered about 20 miles.
The pursuit ended when the suspects crashed their car into another vehicle near Watt Avenue. The collision injured an unidentified pregnant woman, and medics took her to the hospital for treatment.
Ross, Scott, and Williams are facing several charges of grand theft, conspiracy, and reckless evading causing injury. The police said the pregnant woman and her baby are doing well, and have since been released from the hospital.
The FPD also explained that they decided to chase the suspect’s vehicle after considering a variety of factors, namely the seriousness of the suspected crime, traffic, and road conditions. They noted that at the time, there wasn’t a high volume of traffic, which made them decide to go through with it.
