Dashcam video recorded a light-colored truck driving off just after it struck Vang.
The accident left the mother of two unable to walk. Vang said she broke her spine, sternum, and ribs along with her right hand and right wrist.
She had to get emergency surgery at UC Davis Medical Center. She said she was still unable to get up without assistance.
Expressing hope that her bones will heal in time, Vang said her helmet saved her life.
She spent weeks in hospital without receiving any visitors because of COVID-19 restrictions and she is now at a rehab center.
Vang is working on regaining her independence. In the meantime, she wants the truck driver off the streets.
She said it wasn’t fair for her to be going through so much pain and suffering because of someone else’s recklessness. She urged the driver to turn themselves in.
The California Highway Patrol recently received the dashcam footage and its investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Vang family has offered $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
They have also set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her growing medical bills.
A top accident lawyer in California may be able to help Vang get compensation for her medical expenses and other losses.
