A woman living in a homeless encampment in Merced, California, might hire a car injury attorney after getting hit by a big rig. Crystal Geer was struck by the tractor-trailer on Wednesday, April 8th, while in the encampment.
The crash occurred at about 9:42 p.m. on Highway 99 near Child’s Avenue. The preliminary accident report released by the California Highway Patrol showed that the driver of the tractor-trailer, 25-year-old Mason Myrick, lost control of the vehicle.

The driver was traveling on the No. 2 lane, and at the same time, a Cadillac sedan, driven by Omar Govea, was on the number one lane. The CHP said that one of the two men conducted an unsafe lane change, which made Myrick veer off the roadway.
Geer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene. Neither of the two drivers suffered any wound. The CHP is heading the investigation to determine liability.
Liability in an accident results from the negligent act of a driver. When it gets determined that a driver acted negligently, he or she, depending on circumstances of the case, would face a lawsuit. In Geer’s case, she can bring a civil action under California law if she wants to.
A victim bringing a civil suit would have to hire a car injury attorney for representation. The court during trial would look at the evidence before it, and if it determines that the driver was grossly negligent, the victim would get compensated.
Depending on the loss suffered, compensation would cover medical bills, loss of wages, emotional or psychological trauma, and in some cases, loss of consortium.
