The investigators said that the victim struck the west wall of the overpass, leaving him fatally injured. An unidentified male passenger in the Chevrolet sustained unspecified injuries and received treatment at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
The DPD shut down the Mace overpass after the fatal accident, while they gathered evidence and cleared the scene of debris. Sgt. John Evans said the officers that discovered the accident were responding to an unrelated incident in the area. He said it appears Ladd was trying to go south on Mace when he lost control, but they will know more at the end of their investigation.
Single-vehicle accidents are one of the common causes of crash-related deaths in California. Motor vehicle crashes are preventable when drivers follow the road’s rules and drive within the legal speed limit. Additionally, drivers should approach curves and turns carefully, maintain the lane they are traveling on, yield to other motorists, and obey stop signs.
