The Los Angeles Fire Department revealed that the collision’s impact caused one of the vehicles to catch fire. Coroner investigator, T. Godoy, said that Muriel and Waddle died at the scene, but the unnamed truck driver did not sustain any injury.
There is currently no additional information on the accident, and it is unknown if the truck driver got cited for the occurrence. The investigation remains active.
A rear-end collision is one of the leading causes of crash-related fatalities in California. When the accident is between a small vehicle and a big rig, the occupants of the former are more likely to sustain injuries or die, as smaller cars are more affected than big ones.
Thus, big rig drivers should always ensure there is adequate space between them and other vehicles. Additionally, they should maintain the speed limit of the roadway they are traveling on and ensure they get adequate rest before getting on the road.
