The preliminary investigation has indicated that a 49-year-old man from Goodfield, Illinois, was operating a truck that had a semi-trailer attached to it. The Goodfield man was heading west on Interstate 80.
There was a traffic backup ahead from a vehicle fire. The truck driver slowed for this backup.
A 68-year-old woman from Woodridge, Illinois, was driving a car just behind the semi-truck. She also slowed for the traffic backup.
Davis was in a third vehicle behind the first two. However, Davis failed to slow for the backup, according to authorities.
Davis’ car hit the back of the Woodridge woman’s car. Before Davis came to a stop, she also hit the back of the semi-truck.
The Illinois State Police and the Utica Fire Department with an ambulance also responded to the accident. According to the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office, Davis died as a result of the accident. Neither the Woodridge woman nor the Goodfield man received injuries from the crash.
