The CHP investigators said that a white 2007 BMW 328i was eastbound on 106th when the driver ran a red light at Vermont and entered directly into the path of an oncoming BMW car heading south. The two vehicles collided, and the front end of the second car crashed into the rear end of the first.
Caldwell was southbound in the Saab in the No. 1 lane of Vermont, and he made a left turn to avoid the collision. The move caused him to lose control of his vehicle, and he slammed into the concrete center median. The man then traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree before resting.
The medics pronounced the victim dead on the scene. The CHP said that another driver identified as a 39-year-old male resident of Los Angeles suffered minor wounds. The paramedics took him to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood for treatment.
The investigators have not made any arrests as they are still investigating. There is currently no additional information.
