In an auto crash, the probability of a car occupant remaining inside or getting ejected is dependent on whether or not the person used a seatbelt. It also depends on whether the vehicle occupants used the belt appropriately.
Under Illinois laws, every occupant of a car except for buses must wear a seatbelt in each designated seating position. The strap primarily saves lives in an accident by keeping a person in the car and preventing him or her from becoming a projectile, and it also prevents the head from hitting the steering wheel.
Passengers in the back seat are 44% more likely to survive a crash if they wear a seatbelt. Also, the straps are legal, and thus, it prevents a driver and a passenger from getting ticketed and fined for lack of usage.
