Semi-trailers, also known as tractor-trailers or 18-wheelers, are always on the road because they deliver essential products across state lines. Thus, the likelihood of its drivers getting into an accident is quite high, especially when impairment and fatigue are factors. Alcohol or drug consumption affects a driver’s cognitive ability, while the lack of adequate rest may cause the person to fall asleep while driving.
Other factors are distracted driving and misjudging the flow of traffic and road conditions. It takes about three seconds for a distracted driver to crash, and the load carried by semi-trailers diminishes their maneuverability and increased stopping distance compared to smaller vehicles.
