A woman received a 5-year sentence on Wednesday, June 17, several months after causing a DUI crash that killed one person in Madisonville, Texas. Accident reports provided, and court documents showed that the crash happened last year, and left one other victim injured.
The convict, 43-year-old April Towery, struck a vehicle conveying a 45-year-old Madisonville resident and a female passenger on March 29, 2019, records show. Towery was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, as determined by the Madison County DUI detectives and toxicology results.

The operator of the struck vehicle, Bill Brewer, died from injuries sustained in the collision, while his passenger survived, with severe injuries. The crash occurred on Texas Highway 75, north of Madisonville.
Following the accident, deputies took the female motorist into custody, on one count each of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. In May 2020, Towery was in an emotional meeting with the injured woman, and the fatal victim’s family. The accident reports released earlier failed to disclose the identity of the wounded woman. Madison County District Attorney Brian Risinger confirmed that the outcome of the meeting prompted the suspect to plead guilty to the charges, leading to her Wednesday sentencing.
According to court documents, Towery would serve five years in a correction facility for each of the charges. Both sentences would, however, run concurrently, Risinger disclosed in a statement.
