The young man experienced a flat tire and was trying to get off the freeway when a gray Mazda 3 sedan struck the SUV’s trailer. The vehicle ended up in a sideways position. Next, Vail, driving a gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, lost control of his car while trying to avoid the wreck.
The man crashed into a wall and ended up in the middle of the freeway. Amid the chaos that ensued, the unnamed Mazda driver, and the passengers of the SUV came out of the vehicles and stood on the roadway.
The group was trying to figure out the situation when Abdullah Baidas, 23, in a Chevrolet SUV, stopped to help. At that point, Cody Munson, 56, driving an Amazon 18-wheeler swerved to avoid the cars but ended up hitting all five.
The man also struck two people standing on the roadway. The two turned out to be the Mazda driver and a female passenger in the SUV. They were pinned under the 18-wheeler and declared dead at the scene.
The accident report stated that Baidas jumped off the freeway to avoid getting hit, and he survived together with Alvarado, Vail, Munson, and two unnamed children.
