The driver failed to stop at the intersection; she turned her vehicle to the left and crossed into the opposite lane of the roadway. The act caused McKenna to collide with a Freightliner truck that was driving toward the intersection in the southbound lanes.
The impact of the collision caused Andon, seated in the rear passenger seat of the Subaru, to sustain fatal wounds. The medics pronounced the young boy dead at the scene. The female driver and another passenger identified as Isabella Urbina, 18, sustained minor injuries and did not require transport to the hospital.
The police said the three young people had their seat belts on at the time of the crash. The truck driver identified as Camilo Garcia Lopez, 61, of Shafter, went unscathed and had no liability in the accident.
The accident report disclosed that the CHP does not consider drugs or (and) alcohol as contributing factors. The accident remains under investigation, and the investigators will provide an update at a later date.
