COSTA MESA, CA – A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed while riding his bicycle in Costa Mesa Sunday evening.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Junipero Drive and Arlington Drive near TeWinkle Park.

Investigators have determined that a moving truck drove through the stop sign and struck the boy who was in the designated intersection. A witness performed CPR on the victim until help arrived. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and the boy died a short time later.
The driver of the moving truck, 59-year-old Richard Lavelle, and his passenger, 56-year-old Lee Anna Diaz Murphy, were both arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of controlled substances, and unlawful paraphernalia.
