The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office disclosed in a press release that a man from Altamont survived a solo crash in Summit Township, Illinois. Sheriff’s officials said Tuesday that 24-year-old Zachary R. Beccue was the only person injured in the occurrence.
The accident report showed that the victim traveled in a red 1997 Ford F-150 westbound on 1600th Avenue, approximately a half mile west of 800th Street on Saturday. The police said the man exited the roadway to the right, and overcorrected while trying to reenter the road.

At about 6:40 p.m., the truck went through both traffic lanes before exiting the roadway to the left. It struck a ditch, overturned multiple times, and rested on its passenger side, facing southwest in a cut soybean field.
The collision ejected Beccue, and he landed 8 feet in front of the truck. The sheriff’s office said he was not wearing a seatbelt. Responding medics airlifted the man to Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana for treatment of incapacitating injuries.
The police cited the victim for improper lane usage. The investigation into the occurrence is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
Improper lane usage is a traffic offense under the Illinois Vehicle Code. It is a petty crime, with the maximum fine of $1000, additional court costs, and assessment fees. Drivers would also have points attached to their driver’s license, and they can avoid this by maintaining a single travel lane when in transit.
