The act placed her directly in front of a Toyota Prius, and they collided. The male occupants of the second vehicle sustained severe, but non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and there’s no additional information at this time.
When a motor vehicle accident occurs, the investigators look at the events leading to it to determine who bears the negligence. To achieve this, they gather information from those involved or witnesses, map out the events’ sequence, and determine underlying causes.
They also recommend corrective actions to those involved, and where necessary, criminal charges to the District Attorney’s Office. The standard charges emanating from an accident include hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and vehicular manslaughter.
A hit-and-run happens when a person leaves the scene of an accident without reporting it, while a DUI charge is for anyone who drove while intoxicated with either drugs or alcohol. A vehicular manslaughter charge is for a driver who does either of the first two and kills a person in the process.
The trio carries penalties of imprisonment, fines, and revocation of driving privileges, among others. Drivers can avoid the charges and punishments by remaining after a crash and operating without impairment.
