Accidents happen for a lot of reasons which are avoidable or unavoidable. Common causes include but are not limited to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving distracted, running through red lights or stop signs, and traveling beyond the legal or posted speed limit.
Animal sightings, tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic, mechanical defects, or an underlying medical condition also cause accidents. Drivers can prevent crashes by obeying all speed limits, and signs, driving responsibly and without impairment, and carrying out a safety check before putting the key into the ignition.
Always use turn signs and signals, pay attention to the roadway, and use headlights at night. When at an intersection, look to the left, right, and left again before driving through, and check for noticeable leaks in the engine compartment.
