Motor vehicle crashes occur for otherwise avoidable reasons. Common causes of traffic accidents include but are not limited to impaired driving, distractions, adverse road conditions, speeding, adverse weather conditions, and mechanical defects.
Safety tips for drivers include obeying the speed limit, traffic signs, driving without any form of impairment, and wearing a seatbelt while in transit. Before driving a car, do a simple safety check, turn on the lights, and walk around the vehicle to ensure they are in working order.
Check the blinkers for proper operation, look for fluid leakage or anything hanging from the car, and ensure the tires are appropriately inflated. After entering the vehicle, adjust the mirrors before placing the key into the ignition.
Always drive with the headlights on as a car is visible for nearly four times with its lights on. Use turn and exit signs, spell stop before going through a stop sign, look left, right, and left again before going through an intersection.
