Broussard was in a Chrysler 300 at the time of the crash. The car accident report showed that two other people suffered minor injuries, and medics transported them to a hospital. The CHP said that they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the occurrence.
The highway patrol said that the big rig tipped over, blocking all the southbound lanes. Officers redirected traffic to Florin Road while they cleaned the scene and gathered evidence. They reopened the roadway at about 10 p.m.
Broussard was a husband, father of four children, and an active member of the Elk Grove Community. He ran for Mayor in 2016, and the city of Elk Grove Vice Mayor Steve Detrick described him as having an infectious smile and as someone who always made people laugh.
Motor vehicle collisions of this nature are preventable if drivers maintain the speed limit and exercise due care when on the road. Motorists should also slow down when approaching slowed traffic, and brake in time to avoid an accident.
