The woman operated a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on Highway 108 when she crossed the double yellow line while attempting to pass a semi without a trailer. The vehicle then sideswiped an oncoming Honda Civic causing Linja to lose control of it.

The Suburban collided head-on with a utility pickup truck before getting struck by the semi. The CHP said that the crash’s impact ejected Morones from the SUV, and medics pronounced him dead.

Linja sustained significant injuries, and the medics flew her to a hospital in Modesto for treatment. The SUV driver, a 52-year-old Sonora man, who works for an Oakdale construction company, suffered minor injuries, and the paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment using a land ambulance.

The CHP did not record any other injury from the occurrence. They determined that the Suburban driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash and placed her under arrest. The investigation is ongoing, and there’s no additional information.
