The driver who struck and killed 55-year-old Zoraleigh Ryan of Arizona in Chicago, Illinois, would need a car accident attorney’s expertise. On Wednesday, August 12th, the Chicago Police Department revealed the suspect’s name as Edgar Roman, 25, of Albany.

The CPD said that the suspect fled the scene of the Monday, August 10th, accident at the city’s northside at top speed. He wrecked his vehicle after crashing through a barricade at Merchandise Mart Plaza and left on foot.

An hour after the 10:30 p.m. incident, Roman walked into the 17th District police station on 4650 N. Pulaski Road in Albany Park. The man informed officers that he was the victim of a carjacking, but they matched him to the description of the suspect that killed Ryan.

They took Roman in for questioning, and after ascertaining the facts charged him with murder, two counts of attempted murder, leaving the scene of an accident, and false reporting of an incident. The CPD said that the suspect appeared to strike the victim intentionally.

Facts from the accident report showed that the man was parked on southbound State Street when he made a U-turn on Hubbard Street and struck Ryan. The suspect continued north on State, turned right on Illinois, and circled back to the crash site where he hit the woman for the second time.

Roman dragged the victim for about half a block, leaving her fatally injured. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene. A 20-year-old woman was also involved in the incident, and she sustained minor abrasions.

A Cook County judge ordered the police to remand the suspect on a $2 million bail bond. There is no additional information, and the investigation remains active.
