Jose Abelardo Carreto was traveling southbound on Road 36 when the incident occurred. Just south of the Avenue 376, Carreto apparently lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle then veered off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.
Carreto sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the paramedics and first responders arrived on the scene of the crash, attempts to revive Carreto failed. He was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.
California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident, with assistance from local law enforcement agencies. The focus of the investigations at this point is to determine exactly what caused Carreto to lose control of the vehicle. Preliminary investigations show that Carreto was not driving under the influence, so drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as likely factors.
Overspeeding and a medical emergency are other common factors in single-vehicle collisions like this. A fault with the vehicle itself could also contribute to such a crash. Subsequent accident reports may shed light on the precise cause of the incident as well as other vital details regarding the crash.
