A male DUI driver in Madera, California, would need a drunk driving attorney’s service following his arrest. The Madera Police Department said that Fidel Calixtro crashed his car into a home in the city while driving impaired.

The police said they received a call about the incident before midnight, and dispatched officers to a home on Adell Street near N’ D.’ Street. When the lawmen arrived at the scene, they found that Calixtro’s car went through the front door into the living room.

The MPD said the vehicle stopped short of going all the way through the house onto the back porch. An investigation revealed that Calixtro was unlicensed to operate a motor vehicle and placed him under arrest. They did not specify if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In California, a person who operates a vehicle while intoxicated and causes an accident is liable for driving under the influence. Ordinarily, a DUI charge carries a punishment of jail time, administrative driver’s license suspension, and compulsory alcohol reduction program.

However, if the accident leads to death, the person would face a vehicular manslaughter charge, which carries a penalty of four, six, or ten years imprisonment. Asides from the criminal punishments, the offender would also face a civil lawsuit for wrongful death by the victim’s family or representatives to recover damages. The latter covers medical bills, loss of income, and emotional trauma amid other things.
