On Monday, August 3rd, an accident report update revealed that the police in San Rafael, California, detained a DUI driver who injured a person last week in a crash on one of the city’s highways. 19-year-old Beatrice Bigham of Mill Valley would need the assistance of a drunk driving attorney.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was intoxicated during the incident on Friday, July 31st. Bigham, at the time, headed north on southbound Highway 101, north of Francis Drake Boulevard. It placed her in front of an SUV, which she collided with head-on at about 10:15 p.m.

The teenager and another individual suffered injuries from the collision. The CHP did not release the name of the wounded victim, but they revealed that Bigham accessed the highway from Francis Drake, and had only traveled a short distance before the occurrence.

The suspect is at the Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence under the legal age with a blood concentration of more than .15% and allegedly driving the wrong way on a divided freeway. There is no additional information.

California has strict laws when it comes to minors drinking and driving. Motorists below the age of 21 must not operate a motor vehicle or automobile if they have .01% blood alcohol concentration. Anything from that number makes a person liable for a criminal charge of driving under the influence. If found guilty, he or she would face severe administrative and legal penalties.
